No words of love had been spoken between them, and yet, Noelle thought they seemed to hang in the air between them. Almost as if they waited, expectantly… They were ready to be spoken and once the right moment arrived, they would float over them and that very love would erase all the shadows that had haunted them for so long.

Asher’s kiss was like tasting a bit of heaven. She wanted to give all of herself to him, but Noelle knew better. This moment between them, while precious, was still tenuous. In the morning, she didn’t want to have any regrets about her time with him. So far she had none, and she intended to keep it that way. Kissing him was everything, and still not enough. She wanted so much more with him, and from him.

She stepped back, but didn’t move completely away from him. His nearness filled her with warmth and without him, an icy dread took its place. “Where do we go from here?”

He stroked his hand over her dark ringlets and sighed. “Where ever we want to.”

That wasn’t exactly an answer. She knew they could go anywhere, but the real question was: would they do it together? “That’s not what I meant, and you know it.”

“I’m captivated by you.” His smile was soft and held so much promise it made her ache inside. “I never want to be separated from you again. So wherever you go, I’ll be by your side.”

Her lips twitched. “That is a little excessive, don’t you think?” Noelle lifted a brow. “There will be times that may be an impossible ask.”

“Nothing is ever impossible. Not really.” He grinned. “But I do know what you mean. We can’t do everything together, but I would like us to be together as much as possible.”

She nodded. Besides, I think my father would object if you followed me to my bedchamber.” Noelle laughed lightly. “Especially as we are not officially married.”

“That is something we could rectify easily.” He frowned. “Well, at least once the snow stops, our carriage is repaired, and the roads are passable.”

“What are you saying?” He still hadn’t said he loved her. Should she say the words first? Would it prompt him to return the words? Did she want him to admit his love for her in that way? Did she really need to hear the words? She believed he loved her. Didn’t she?

He studied her. She began to squirm underneath that scrutiny. What did he see, and did it give him pause? Instead of saying anything, he leaned down and pressed his lips to hers. The heat in the kiss nearly brought her to her knees. She wobbled and fell into his arms. Somehow, he kept them both upright as he ravaged her mouth with his skilled touch. He skimmed his hands over her back, then down to her derriere. His hardness was pressed against her stomach, and it terrified her.

Asher drew back, then leaned down until his mouth was against her ear.
